Renee Slusser – Director
Renee Slusser, Director of the Children’s Nest Learning Center has over seven years of experience as a child care professional in the local area. Renee is a graduate from Radford University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Education. Renee has recently taught mathematics in a local public school system over the past two years. Her education, love and passion for children and families has brought her great opportunity and pleasure to serve the families of the local community.
Renee has been married to her husband, Travis, since 2011. We enjoy spending most of our time with family and close friends. We also enjoy camping, kayaking, spending time at Smith Mountain Lake, four wheeling, and many more outdoor activities.
Brooke Drew – Co-Director
Brooke Drew, Co-Director of Children’s Nest Learning Center has over seven years of experience as a child care professional in the local area. Brooke is a graduate from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with her concentration being Psychology and Special Education. Brooke’s favorite part of working with children is seeing children learn and grow throughout the program. Brooke appreciates all the rewards she experiences throughout the day including learning something new, an unexpected hug, or a happy parent. Brooke loves getting to know the children and their many personalities and learning the life lessons that children teach adults on a regular basis.
When not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her puppy “Boone”, camping, kayaking, doing crafts or hands-on projects around the house, and fishing. Brooke has worked in Mental Health for the past two years and realized that her real passion was serving children and their families.
Rhonda Spangler – Business Owner
A native of the Roanoke Va. area with over 30 years of business and sales experience, she is currently an active Realtor since 2004 and is presently with RE/MAX AllPoints since 2007. Owning and operating her own Real Estate business has brought many opportunities, friendships and business relationships. One of which has been a lifetime dream of opening a child care learning center. In serving in various roles within the community and volunteering for over 25 years she has had the opportunity to serve children of all ages, coaching (softball and basketball), school functions and as a Booster Club Officer.
She has a passion for children to learn and have fun as they grow and become our leaders in our community. She intends for the facility that she owns and operates to provide a safe, fun, and learning environment to each child and guarantees parents to be satisfied with the care that we provide to their children.
She has been happily married since September of 1983 to her husband, Dave Spangler Jr., who is an educator in the public school system since Aug 1987. She has two children, Matt and Renee, who are married to Ashlee and Travis, and a grandson Bryson. She enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking, fishing, camping, boating on Smith Mtn. Lake, and sports such as football, softball, and basketball.
Miss Brooke our very own co-director is the lead teacher of the infant room.
Miss Donna comes to us with several years of child care experience. Miss Donna works part time here at Children’s Nest as a Lead Teacher. Miss Donna works mostly in the Infant room class but also works as a floater in other positions as needed. When not at work Miss Donna enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
12 – 16 Months Class
Miss Marcie comes to us with five years of state licensed child care experience and two years as a personal nanny. Marcie loves working with children and watching/helping them as they explore and learn new things. Marcie loves to interact with the children through arts and crafts as well as during playtime, music time, story time, etc.
16 – 24 Months Class
Miss Ashley has been with Children’s Nest Learning Center since March 2015. Miss Ashley has earned her way into a Lead Teacher position here at Children’s Nest Learning Center and we are so blessed for her quick growth and ability to take on the responsibility of a Lead Teacher at this time. Miss Ashley is very open and easy to talk to and will give you great feedback if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s day or progress. When not at work Ashley enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Miss Charlene has been with Children’s Nest Learning Center since January 2015. Miss Charlene comes to us with many years of experience with in home babysitting and church nursery. When not at work, Miss Charlene enjoys singing in her church choir, where her husband is a minister of music. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Two Year Old Class
Miss Jessica has been with Children’s Nest Learning Center since October 2014. Miss Jessica is a Lead Teacher here at Children’s Nest Learning Center and we are so blessed for her quick growth and ability to take on the responsibility of a Lead Teacher. When not at work Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys reading in her spare time.
Miss Amanda comes to us with many years of preschool teaching experience. Miss Amanda is also a Lead Teacher here at Children’s Nest Learning Center. When not at work, Miss Amanda enjoys spending time with her husband, and three children. She is also a Girl Scout troop leader and often is a volunteers at her children’s school events.
Pre K 1
Miss Karen has been with Children’s Nest Learning Center since March 2015. Miss Karen came to our center with 20 years of experience in teaching preschool age children plus 28 years of motherhood to three children of her own. Miss Karen is the lead teacher of the Pre K 1 group.
Pre K 2
Miss Julie has been with Children’s Nest Learning Center since August of 2014. Miss Julie came to our center with 15 years of experience in teaching preschool age children plus 18 years of motherhood to three children of her own. Miss Julie is the lead teacher of the Pre K 2 group.
